A Word from the President  My mother is the greatest storyteller in the world. She also happens to be
the loudest storyteller in the world. These qualities are probably
what made her such a wonderful 3rd Grade teacher for 30 years.When I was a kid, I lived for great stories. I loved hearing about Ancient Roman cities wiped out by fiery volcanoes, American colonists building a new world and scientific inventions that changed the way we live. All these events had incredible stories to tell. Stories that bind us across generations. Stories that teach us about our past and even our future. Ultimately, history becomes a ceremony of storytelling, wrapping the people and places of each event up into a little bit of adventure and mystery. Of course, there comes a time when kids want to stop listening to the story and become part of the story. Don't you wish you could have signed the U.S. Constitution? To have seen the eruption of Mount Vesuvius? To have built the world's first weather station? Just to have been there as history was being created. Schools today are pummeled by a frenzy of testing and assessment. Teachers have less time but more accountability. As part of that accountability, teachers must now demonstrate competency in not only their primary content areas, but also areas such as arts integration. Well, it's no secret that integrating the arts into the classroom improves achievement. So Accompany wants to help teachers make the arts a part of core classroom curriculum, not just an add-on piece. In classrooms there's always a story waiting to be told. Aren't teachers our most treasured storytellers? Through song and stage magic our students can work together and learn through the ultimate art: musical theatre.
